Akhenaten, who was known before the fifth year of his reign as Amenhotep IV was a Pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt who ruled for 17 years. He was the father of Tutankhamun, one of the most famous Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. Many consider Akhenaten as one of the worlds’ greatest and most influential religious innovators. Description: Akhnaton, a pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty, is about to challenge everything his people and culture hold dear in The Last Pharaoh. Before his rule, Egyptians lived a life of slavery under their rulers, who demanded abject submission. In a culture where rulers are revered as gods, change comes slowly, if at all.

Several generations before Akhnaton, Egypt had been occupied by invaders from the North (Hyksos). The Egyptian rulers, at that time, had fled into Africa, near the source of the Nile where they lived as refugees. This exiled community began their recovery with pharaoh AhMoses (beginning of the 18th Dynasty, B.C., followed by ThotMoses I in B.C.). Pharaoh Akhenaten, Amenhotep IV, attempted to convert ancient Egypt to monotheism, but his story is more than just Aten worship.

Amenhotep IV, also known as the Pharaoh Akhenaten, was destined to be remembered for his attempt at a religious conversion of ancient Egypt; one that saw the old gods put aside and replaced by a singl. The name of the pharaoh who opposed Moses in the book of Exodus is one of the most hotly debated subjects in Bible scholarship.
